Valley Forge, Evansburg and the Schuylkill: homes on wooded edges

Valley Forge National Historical Park reaches into Upper Merion, Lower Providence and West Norriton. The National Park Service reports that deer density there rose from 31 to 35 per square mile in 1983 to 241 by 2009, and management since then targets 20 to 25. Homes on the park edge in King of Prussia and Audubon back onto a lot of woodland.

Evansburg State Park covers 3,349 acres across Lower Providence, Skippack, Worcester, Lower Salford and Towamencin, and the Perkiomen Creek joins the Schuylkill River at Oaks. Norristown rowhouses and Upper Providence Township subdivisions

Montgomery County has some of the oldest attached housing in our service area and some of the newest subdivisions. In Norristown, 55.4% of homes were built before 1960 and 47.1% are twins or rows; the West Norristown Historic District alone counts about 1,700 buildings, mostly rowhouses and semi-detached homes from 1885 to 1925. Old Pottstown's historic district has 956 contributing buildings. Shared walls and old foundations there call for mouse and rat control that seals entry points, and apartments call for cockroach control.

Upper Providence Township, Limerick Township, Skippack Township and New Hanover Township went the other way, with 37% to 47% of homes built since 2000.
