How we cover Chester County: two service areas

Pest control in Chester County is organized around two service areas. The northern townships along the Schuylkill River and French Creek are served from our Phoenixville base at 153 Silver Springs Rd. West Chester, Exton, Downingtown, Coatesville, Kennett Square and the southern county make up the West Chester service area. A West Chester location is coming soon, and until then those towns are scheduled from Phoenixville too.

Chester County tick and mosquito numbers

CDC county counts show 934 Lyme disease cases in Chester County in 2023. Divided by the 2020 Census population, that is about 174.8 per 100,000 residents, the highest rate among Chester County, Montgomery County and Delaware County and above the Pennsylvania rate of 128.6 reported by the state Department of Health. Surveillance definitions changed in 2022, so these figures should not be compared with earlier years.

The PA Department of Environmental Protection recorded 81 West Nile virus positive mosquito samples and 2 human cases in the county in the 2025 season. If your yard has wooded edges, leaf litter or standing water, the state agencies publish prevention guidance worth reading.

Phorid flies in southern Chester County

Kennett Square sits at the center of the county's mushroom growing industry, and phorid flies from growing operations became a public issue in late 2024. That December, Kennett Township, Kennett Square Borough, Avondale, West Grove and New Garden each issued formal declarations. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported complaints rising from a handful a year to nearly 40 in a single season.

On January 30, 2025, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture issued a quarantine order for Kennett and New Garden Townships requiring growers to steam off mushroom houses. Kennett Township renewed its declaration in Resolution 2026-8 in February 2026 after more complaints in fall 2025. Indoor fly work reduces what gets into a home but cannot fix the farm source. Spotted lanternfly and fall invaders across the county

All of Chester County has been in the Pennsylvania spotted lanternfly quarantine since November 2017. Our spotted lanternfly guidance covers identification, egg mass scraping and moving items out of the quarantine area.

Brown marmorated stink bugs are a bigger indoor nuisance. Penn State Extension says adults look for overwintering sites in September and October, and homes next to woods see more of them. With wooded lots common from Warwick to Pocopson, the stink bug and fall invader service is timed for late summer sealing.

Old boroughs and new subdivisions

Housing in the old Chester County boroughs is very different from the newer township subdivisions, and so are the pest problems. Old boroughs have stone foundations, wood sills and shared walls, where mice and termites find easy routes. New subdivisions have fresh mulch beds, utility penetrations and wooded edges. Penn State Extension notes that termite damage typically shows 10 or more years after construction, so a 2005 house is well inside that window now.
